Hindu means one especially Aryan of Northern India, who professes Hinduism. The term having not been explained or defined anywhere, it is not at all definite in its significance. Some writers of considerable eminence hold the view the the word has been derived from the word 'Sindhu'- the modern indus (river). The traditional Hindu law applies to all persons who are Hindus by religion, irrespective of their residence which may be in india or outside.
