This book is a brilliant personal military `history` with history being in quotes to reflect De Guingand`s own reluctance to call his woek a historical work. De Guingand was a staff officer for most of the war and thus his perspective is not really one of mud, blood, sweat and death, but one of strategy, command decision, personalities, and theatre level visions.
